Update on changes in the Yahoo Finance Site

The Yahoo finance site has changed and this has broken some parts of the ISQ component. This post lists the parts that are broken and and workarounds if avbl.

The way yahoo handles and reports wrong symbols has changed and this has broken the Invalid symbol recognization. This will be fixed in the next version

The way yahoo handles symbol and exchange matching has changed. So when you provide the symbol and exchange the component may break.

The workaround for this is to use the fully qualified symbol. ie. the symbol also contains the exchange information (.NS or .BO).

The next version of the component will work with the new changes
Try the symbol BSESN for BSE Sensex and NSEI for the Nifty. I have not checked this as initially the component was aimed to retrieve quotes and charts of companies only. Also do note only NSE charts are currently supported and not BSE charts.

Rgds,
Anand
http://www.dotnetindia.com

Thanks for your consideration.
I am starting to develop the Sample for the component in VB.NET as windows application.
Once again thanks for selecting me as Developer.
Hemant, The component itself is written in VB.NET. So I think the first version of the sample can be in VB.NET. Maybe if more people join up we can do a dual version sample set.
Thanks,
I am interested to work on sample application.
Which language (C#.NET/VB.NET) and application type (Windows/Web) we should use?

Would be interested in building that sample application? I think that would be a great addition.

Thanks,
1) StockTickerControl
We can implement stock ticker that shows Stock rates of a Stock symbol in a random fashion, or we can select the Stock symbol from the Dropdown list and it's stock rates can be displayed.

2) We can implement the functionality to view historical prices or stock charts by entering stock ticker symbol and date range.

3) We should provide an example/demo application along with TestProject.

Charts

The component supports Charts from the Yahoo India site. As of now it supports charts only for NSE, as the way Yahoo handles BSE charts are different and I have not yet got to start implementing them. So if you pass a BSE symbol, you are going to get an invalid symbol from the Chart call, but you will still get a valid Quote from the GetStockQuote call.

Charts types basically decide how long back you want to go to track the stock. The component supports upto 5 years.

Charts are returned as a System.Drawing.Image type. So you can basically manipulate this before you actually show it to the end user.
Version 1.2.0 uploaded

1. Create a Interface that will allow you to just switch websites from where you want to get the quote. Out of the box, this release supports, Yahoo India and NSE India sites.
2. Added the NSE India provider. This only supports quotes as of now as the NSE charts are based on java applets.
3. Some reorganization of code to make it more maintainable and some additional comments to help you, if you are looking at the code.
